Friendship – that’s why I joined Rotary almost 3 years ago. I was new in town and didn’t know a soul, so I thought Rotary would be a great place to find friends and become involved in the community in which I lived. What I found was more than I imagined.
Not only did I find the friendship I was looking for, I also found ordinary people who, together, do extraordinary things. I found fulfillment in making a difference, in being part of a bigger picture and helping others around the world as well as in my own back yard. I also found that you can have fun doing it!
Some of our projects include the community garden at the school, which helps put food on the table of many in my community. Bike Safety Day, giving bike helmets to local kids and helping ensure they ride safely on the road. Along with Rotary International, we’re working to eradicate Polio around the world; and we’re part of the Books of the World project, which is helping to facilitate literacy in South Africa.
If you’re looking for friendship, networking opportunities or a way to make a difference, big or small, explore our website and think about becoming a part of these ordinary people who do extraordinary things, of whom I’m proud to have the opportunity to be President of this year.
